Real Madrid v Bayern, Sergio Ramos show

Real Madrid v Bayern just ended 2-2, 4-3 aggregate and Real Madrid advanced to the final. Man of the match? Sergio Ramos, with little to no doubt whatsoever. He was everywhere, at any time. Unbelievable. Kind of harsh on Karim Benzema and Keylor Navas who otherwise could have been the MOTM.

Sergio Ramos, should have/could have won a Ballon’Dor by now. In fact, I’m almost certain he would have 2-3 Ballon’Dor trophies if it weren’t for Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Hes the heart and soul of Real Madrid, a team that has reached 4 out of the last 5 Champions League finals, a team that has won 3 out of the 4 Champions League finals.

A word on the Real Madrid v Bayern clash: I’m not a nail-biting guy, but i literally gnawed on to each of my 10 fingers. Yeah, it was a “nail biter” of a match. Some people will surely see the match as great misfortune of Bayern. Well, they had their chances, they couldn’t capitalize on the chances. Mainly due to Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane and Keyolr Navas. Real Madrid was FAR from their best, which can be counted as a positive for Bayern or negative for Real Madrid. Me personally, i was expecting a victory from both legs, so i was disappointed in the results, not the outcome.

Don’t get me wrong, this Real Madrid side is likely one of the all time greats, going head to head with those of Real Madrid n 1950’s, Liverpool of late 1970’s and AC Milan of late 1980’s and early 1990’s.¬† They have the best defender, maybe of all time in Sergio Ramos, they have the best midfield trio in Modric, Kroos and Casemiro(including Isco when played with 4man midfield), and the best player of all times(personal opinion, i understand if your’s is Messi). But still, Sergio Ramos is the heart and soul of the team. When he’s out, the whole formation crumbles as it was made of paper, like it did vs Juventus in the 2nd leg.

In a way, it’s a shame, that Sergio Ramos plays his prime at the era of two of the best players the football world has ever seen. Otherwise, he would be one of the most dominant players ever, as a defender. Now i do realize, that my opinion might be little bit biased, as I’ve been Real Madrid fan for 25 years. But, it is what it is. Since Maldini, has there been a Centre back so dominant? No, and one of them won the Ballon’Dor. Fabio Cannavaro, who was a great, GREAT centre back. Sergio Ramos is one step above Cannavaro in most if not all parts of the game though. Well except keeping a cool head. He’s received more red cards than any player in the top5 leaguess, ever. But if he wasnt like that, he wouldn’t be the Sergio Ramos I’ve learned to love.

Real Madrid v Bayern was just another testaments to the greatness of Sergio Ramos. He was literally everywhere, at all times. He intercepted pretty much anything that was thrown at him. He blocked more shots than anyone throughout a single match in Champions League this Season, in a semifinal match. Karim Benzema scored the vital goals, and he finally deserves some gratitude, more than most football players of today, but still Sergio Ramos was the undisputed man of the match.

So whats next for Sergio Ramos and Real Madrid? Well, watching the other Champions League semifinal, AS Roma vs Liverpool from TV. Then prepare for el Clascio on Sunday. Which should be an interesting match for few reasons; 1. The match has no real value whatsoever, as Barcelona has clinched the title already, probably making the match that much more relaxed. 2. Barcelona’s biggest match of the season, is the Champions League final. As if Real Madrid wins the 3rd Champions League in a row, Barcelona’s achievements of this season are diminished significantly. In other words, Barcelona only got anything to lose in El Clasico, as if they lose, its embarrassing. If they win, it will only count for few weeks up and until the Champions League final(if Real Madrid wins it).

Mediocre performance by Real Madrid, capped off by unbelievable performance by Sergio Ramos and Keylor Navas. Have fun Mo Salah, you’ve already once or twice ran into the wall known as Sergio Ramos, you might have another chance on the 26th of May.

Sergio Ramos
